.ape files (Monkey's audio) not sounding in V2

I was pleased to find a new version of VLC as I've been waiting a long time for a fix to a problem that prevented the last second of .ape files being played. However, it seems that V2 can't play .ape files at all - at least the ones I've tried.

What happens instead is that the progress bar advances in increments about every 7 seconds or so, while no sound is produced. I've seen the same thing in both Mac OS 10.6 and Windows XP. Is there a work-around or non-default setting that is needed for this file type?

I have the same problem on my Arch Linux System

Last year I used an old version of VLC on Ubuntu and everything was good.
Single APE or APE+CUE files were OK.

Now I've installed Arch and VLC from the official repository using pacman.
MP3, FLAC and other formats are OK, but APE and APE+CUE doesn't work.

I see the status bar advancing, but I hear no sound.
Hope this problem is fixed...

VLC works perfectly using all the other audio formats I have (FLAC, FLAC+CUE, MP3, OGG, ecc.)
it doesn't work only with APE files.
Searching in the Forum I haven't found a solution, so tomorrow I'll try to post this log to to ticket 7349

Hi, I have the same problem, but I realized there's a small thing to do to play the files: open the APE or CUE+APE file, let VLC plays the file (even though no sound comes out), then CTRL+T to go to a specific time frame (or Playback-->Go to a specific time frame*), and then enter "00:00:01".

It's boring to do, but at least it's working. As I'm not a coder, I sadly don't have more information to communicate to the developers. Hope that it'll be useful to fix the problem in an upcoming version.

* I don't have the English package installed on my computer, so I re-translate (it's just under "forward" and "backward").

EDIT: I'm using VLC 2.0.3 under Vista x86.

I found that xcommander's workaround works for me too. However, there are two huge problems. Firstly, you have to do this for every track in a playlist, which itself is a showstopper. Secondly, the long-standing bug that cuts off playback a second before the end is still present.

Does this codec work for anyone? If not, and there's no one able and willing to make things better instead of worse, those in charge of VLC development should perhaps remove .ape as an supported format or revert to an old working version. Is that possible?

In the meantime, I'm using Winamp on my PC and MPlayer on my Mac to play .ape files.

With VLC's latest release, the problem disappeared when playing directly APE or CUE files, but it remains if CUE or APE file is added to the playlist (I was listening to an MP3, and the next file was an APE file, and VLC play the latest with no sound). My configuration is the same as mentioned above. Hope this will help to solve this problem. If the developers need more technical informations, I'd be happy to help if they provide me a walk-through to obtain the informations they need.
