Capturing Desktop Video

Postby conn » 06 Feb 2012 11:54

Hi,

I've been trying to follow the tutorials on how to do this from youtube, but can't get it to work.

Basically, if I go: Media -> Open Capture Device -> Desktop -> Play

Then I can see the desktop output being played in VLC.

However, if I want to actually record it and go: Media -> Convert/Save -> Desktop -> Convert/Save -> Choose file destination etc... -> Start

Then it just goes back to the blank screen and the record icon is greyed out.

The record icon is NOT greyed out when I am just playing the desktop output, but when I click it then, it doesn't seem to do anything.

What am I doing wrong?

(I'm on VLC 1.1.11 I think. Windows 7)

There is no use for the record button when using convert/save. This is not an error as such.

When just playing back, I guess the record button fails because raw video is not a supported format (and it would occupy too much disk space anyway).
