vlc on os x question (filetype-app association)

Postby bemular » 08 Jun 2005 17:41

Hi. First of all, sorry if this has already been covered before but i'm new to this stuff.

My problem is i'd like all the video files on my mac to be automatically opened with VLC (which is some great piece of software!), but without removing quicktime from my system. is it possible? how can this be achieved?

if i erase quicktime, is that going to solve my problem? would that prevent me from playing videos within my browser?

thank you in advance :)

While this is not really a VLC related question and more of a OS X question... I can still answer it for you.

Right click a file that you want to be associated with VLC, ie. any .avi file. Click on "Get Info" (you can also simply click CMD-I to get this window too).

From here, under the "Open with:" section, drop it down to VLC and then click "Change All..." it will ask you to confirm you want all ".avi" files to open with VLC.

Hope that helps,
