subtitle not shown in movie

I've recently downloaded an external subtitle file for a movie, and renamed the file according to the movie name, keeping the .srt extension, however, when am loading the file, it is not displaying the subs while playing the movie. Any solution for this?

Select the subtitle file explicitly in the "advanced" open file dialog. Also make sure it really is a valid subtitle file.

thanks but I found out after some probing that the text rendering module was set to "dummy font...", which was thus not loading the subs, changing back to default did the trick
