VLC scaling subtitles

Postby jbernardo » 25 Jan 2012 02:22

Couldn't find on this forum, so I will ask:
Why doesn't VLC render the subtitles on the proper resolution in respect with the screen size, not the video dimensions?

I have a full HD screen, but many videos don't have this resolution and are scaled up when running on full screen. The problem is that the subtitles are stretched as well instead of being rendered to fit the size of the screen.
I don't know if there's a technical problem to render the subtitles on another layer with the right size of the player, thought. Can someone explain this?

Thanks!

There were historical reasons. VLC 2.0 does screen-scale fonts if an appropriate video output plugin is selected though.
