vlc beta 1.11.111 video freezes and audio plays on mp4

I am usilng the beta version 1.11.111 and when I try to play mp4 videos the video freezes or the pixels lock on the screen and just the audio is playing ok. Should I go back to the original non-beta version to correct this problem? I see that a few members are experiencing the same problems, could this be a codec problem??? I am using windows xp.
