does VLC support 6 cores when watching videos in hd. im gonna buy a new pc with intel i7 990x but does it support 6 cores or should i stick with my core 2 duo wich laggs alot...

First, VLC 1.2 can use all 6 cores (VLC 1.1.11 does not). Then, you shouldn't buy a big CPU just for decoding Video, just activate GPU decoding.
