cannot stream YouTube to a TV

Postby oordo » 11 Dec 2011 22:26

Hello everybody
Up to now I used VLC only to view movies local to the PC, it was very easy.
Now I would like to view videos on a TV using the VLC Media Player as a server to the internet, the problem is that
I'm not able to start the embedded web server, I read that it is enough (VLC Mac OSX 1.0.3 or 1.1.12 same result) to go to
Preferences -> Add Interface and then click on Web Interface, but there is no effect: TV cannot not connect because port 8080
is not in listening state,
What I'm doing wrong ?
Note that If I use the Streaming Wizard to stream a movie file, the port 8080 goes to LISTEN, the TV client connects but obviously does nothing because such kind of file is not what expected
Note also that TV is actually a TV sat-decoder with a YouTube plugin
Thanks

:D Solved:
when the field Host Address (Preferences -> All -> Interface - > HTTP) is left blank it is defaulted to 8080, that is a port number, not an IP address.
Possible values are:
127.0.0.1 : when the only connections permitted must local ( from the PC where VLC runs )
0.0.0.0 : connections allowed from every PC on the network
x.y.w.z : connection permitted only from the PC whose IP address is x.y.w.z

Unfortunately I didn't see any post, example or documentation saying this
