Can VLC convert Video to Series of still-frames?

Is there a way for VLC to convert a (short) piece of video into a series of still frame-dumps?

I know VLC can do a snapshot, but this method would be tedious, and I would like to dump each source frame, not some arbitrary display frames.

I don't mind what the output format is so long as it retains as much of the source video quality as possible.
Ideally I'd like to specify the start and the end points (times) of the sequence so as to avoid having to edit the source.

YEs, use the scene filter.

Thank you for your reply.

I've no idea what the filter does, but I'll play with it and see what happens!
