VLC and Click Potato

Hi,

After having problems with Click Potato Adware on my PC, a Google search suggests that it may have been downloaded with my VLC programme. Can this be true and if so, why would Videolan use this adware when most folk seem to think it is a dangerous menace?

VLC is of course an excellent media player but Click Potato is seen as bad by many on line.

If it is linked to VLC, how do I remove it without un-installing VLC?

VLC and Click Potato mentioned here:

Thanks

T.

It might happen if you downloaded a bundled version of VLC from a scamming third-party. VideoLAN does not do this.

Many thanks. I have just used Malwarebytes which detected 41 infected objects on my PC, most of which were Click Potato related.

It says they have now been removed. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

As far as I recall, I downloaded VLC from the official site but had just downloaded a version of Realplayer before I learned of VLC. I recall it told me to go to another site to download a codec to ensure Realplayer worked as it should. I guess that is where I innocently picked up Click Potato.

Thanks again for the reassurance.

Best wishes

T

Those people are bad people. We are fighting them as much as we can.
