repair broken recording

I was recording a stream (h264/AAC) and my disk got full. Needless to say, VLC wasn't happy about that. Now I've got this file sitting on my disk that I can't play. Is it possible to recover the data into a usable format? I'm assuming it's a raw h264 stream, but I don't know what to do with it.
The video is fairly important to me and I'm willing to go through a fair amount of effort to repair it.
