View Movie with external chapter file / bookmarks?

Hi
Is there a way to play a movie and jump to different chapters or bookmarks without e.g. muxxing a chapter file into a matroska container?
This works nice for subtitle files, but I did not found a similar solution for chapters...

Btw: A playlist with bookmarks almost does to job, but you are forced to use the menu navigation since "Edit Bookmarks" remains empty and keyboard shortcuts do not work...
