I tried to search for this but have not found any reference to my question. When I try to record something using the record button in the lower left hand side of the screen the file is huge. Is there a way to control the format and size of a record movie? Thanks in advance.

The record button is recording files in their native format, so yes, depending on the bitrate used, they can be quite huge.
And for DVB by default VLC records the whole active transport stream with all of the channels of the current transponder. If you want to record only the current program then you need to use either the "--no-input-record-native" parameter or go to Tools -> Preferences (Show seetings = All) -> Input/Codecs then on the right panel scroll down to Advanced -> Prefer native stream recording and untick this option, then save, exit and restart VLC.

And if the files are still too large for your taste then you need to transcode them afterwards.

This thread is as good as any to commence a respectful yet critical discussion of VLC Forum Practices.

The extraordinary large size of the product of “record” a VLC is a huge problem.

I am here to shoot and quickly obtain videos meeting Twitter's 512 MB Max MP4 video format with H264 format with AAC audio.

My goal (in the ideal) is to shoot these videos with my miserable Logitech USB Camera and to then attach the resulting video file to the Tweet.

In other words, I am trying to clone on my WIN 7 laptop the creative environment which is readily and handily available on my iPhone.

Now - the above response is really beyond the pale:

This response, above, is especially disappointing when one considers that there is no: “Advanced -> Prefer native stream recording and untick this option”. [sic]

Why can’t Jean-Baptiste et al. help forum members come up with responses that sound less like an instruction manual for arming a nuclear trigger on one of Kim’s bombs.

Here is the question:

CAN VLC BE SET IN A WORKABLE MANNER AVAILABLE TO NORMAL HUMAN BEINGS TO RECORD A TWO MINUTE VIDEO AS FOLLOWS?

MP4 video format with H264 format with AAC audio.

To which the answer is either yes or no.

If the answer is no - then why not yes?

And if the answers is "no" - when is this unfortunate situation going to be corrected?
