Want player not to open big window in audio only playback

HI. When I was using the VLC player to play back audio files only, It use to stay in the nice compact form. Now the darn thing opens up like the STUPID Windows Media Player any time I load a single MP3 or a file containing an album of MP3s.
How do I get the Player not to open up like that every time. I HATE IT ! ! ! Please someone tell me what setting I can change to make it go back to the original way it was acting, with a nice small interface, and it only opened up large if I wanted to play a video.
This is frustrating. pls help.
