Increase one channel's Volume when downmixing from surround

Hey guys,

I have an mkv file which has surround sound. I have 2.1 Stereo on me right now (I believe the woofer counts as the .1 right?). VLC downmixes fine but the voice channel of the 5.1 is a little low so I keep have to reaching out for the controls.

Can you tell me how to change the way it downmixes? Like increase the volume of JUST the voice channel so it is louder throughout the movie?

Thanks in advance! :D

There is no balance in VLC. You can play with the equalizer, but that's not quite right.

Balance is normally done by the audio driver or the OS.

Do you have any recommendation? Any alternative app maybe or an addon?

All I want to do is increase the volume of 1 channel (the voice one)

Thanks.

Actually now that you mention OS and Audio Drivers, below are my details:

Audio Card: VIA® VT1718S HD Audio
OS: Windows 7 x64 professional

I checked audio settings in BOTH Control Panel AND VIA HD Audio Deck. Nothing that could allow me to change volume of a channel when downmixing.

Could you assist me in this?

Thanks :)
