freezing when streaming over internet

Postby silky » 06 Sep 2011 15:45

Hi Everyone, Im new to the forum so first post. :?:

I have a satellite receiver which I want to stream over the internet to my laptop, this works perfectly on my home network but when conducting this from a remote location the picture freezes. Im streaming a standard definition picture.

Im a total newbie and have not got a clue how to correct this, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Silky.

hhmm,

will that be at the remote location or from my home location then?

as I said it works fine when Im at home with my laptop so I presume its the works location?

just done a speedtest at office as follows:

download = 16.84 mpbs
ping = 26ms
upload = 1.88

that should be enough shouldnt it?

look at the bitrate of your stream (when it works locally) in tools -> codec -> statistics

You campare it to your bandwith

ok,

still in remote location but stats are as follows:

input/read
media data siZe = 7028 KiB
input bitrate = = jumping from 417kb/s to 916 kb/s
Demuxed data size = 6678 KiB.

picture only changes every 30 seconds and no sound at all!

well the information you need is :
the bandwith of the connection between the server and the receiver, and the bitrate of your stream.

The bitrate can't be measured when it does not work, this is useless.

ok,

this is what Ive found when its working on local system and is working properly ( no freeze )

input bitrate = 4473 kb/s
content bitrate = 4490 kb/s

so what now?

Unless you have a 5 mbs upload bandwith on your server, you would need to transcode it to reduce the bitrate (thus the quality)

Hi Again,

Ive got as far as the convert screen,

I have my input source as the stream from my satellite receiver and I presume I leave the destination folder blank and tick the display output box?

the next box is settings:

it says video h264+AAC(MP4) do I change that?

it then has 2 boxes for deinterlace, and dump raw input, do I tick these boxes?

anything else I need to do?

sorry I can't explain everything here. you'll have to read some docs about transcoding, codecs, quality etc... and also stream output
