Reverse engineering dvd problems?

Has anyone tried to look back at the source code changes between 0.9.9 and 1.0.0? The dvd performance dropped off a cliff. I just installed 0.9.9 and the video choppiness is gone -- it's like getting the newest, most advanced version, and it's like the vlc I remember having no problems. I used to use it all the time for my home theater. I am not attacking vlc or the developers, it's a great project. I just wonder if someone has checked this out?

Try to force the mpeg2 decoder.
I can't find a setting for that in 1.1.8.
I am looking in "Tools/Preferences/Video Settings".
Need instructions to find that setting. Thanks.

Preferences->All->Input/Codec
Put libmpeg2 in the prefered decoder box.

Preferences->All->Input/Codec
Put libmpeg2 in the prefered decoder box.
This makes the problem a lot worse. Choppiness at a higher rate than before.
