VLC stops playing too quick

Hello everyone, I have been a happy user of VLC for quite a while now, but now have a small problem.
When I play any sound file, it ends 1 or so seconds before the sound actually plays. If sound is short like 1 second, it almost doesn't play and I am not able to hear anything.
Does anyone know what's the issue? Even if it's a playlist, sound ends 1 second before it's supposed to end, and then plays next one.
Any help is appreciated!
Edit I have VLC Media player 1.1.4 The Luggage, if that somehow helps...
