Having songs stored in VLC

I went through ~40 pages of forum posts and didn't see a topic related to this. It is entirely possible I missed it and if so, I'm sorry for reposting.

Regardless of whether I add songs to the Media Library or the playlist directly, the folder/songs do not reload when I reload VLC. I have also saved into a playlist all of my songs after their loaded but only ~300 or so songs are actually saved despite me saving the contents of my entire folder (~1700 songs) into the playlist.

Is this a limitation of VLC or is there a setting or something in the preferences (that I have somehow looked over 20 times) that I can set a default folder to for VLC to look for songs in?

I am using 1.1.11, but as far as I can tell I've had this problem on all versions of VLC when I started using it back on like 0.93 or similar version. I've also had this problem on Win XP and Win 7, 32bit version on both.

It's a minor inconvenience and annoying at best. Thanks for any help/response.

Right - either I'm just stupid then for not figuring out something basic, or this is a limitation with VLC, or I have a unique problem. Is there no insight or anyone to call me an idiot? ^-^;

Same basic issue here.

I've got the latest version of VLC. I've started using it to play music because Winamp is being discontinued. I'm still using XP.

With Winamp I was able to save all of my song files into a playlist with no issue. VLC seems to limit the playlist size. Not sure if it's the number of songs or the total length of time. Either way, when I load all of my songs into VLC, sort them and then save them to a playlist file on my desktop, when I go to open it, over half of the songs are no longer on the playlist.

What's the deal? Winamp was able to handle this very easily for the past 10 years or longer.
