A Very Simple (I Hope) Question...

Postby WriterGuy » 08 Jul 2011 04:08

Thank you for taking the plunge into this thread. Fingers and other body parts are crossed in the hopes that a quick and easy resolution is possible...

When clicking on any of the links at tubtub.com, instead of opening in VLC (or anywhere, for that matter), VLC responds with "Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'mms://yesterday.networkwebcast.com/'. Check the log for details.

Before crashing and rebuilding my OS (Win XP) last week, it worked just fine. Now, obviously, it doesn't. Where am I missing the boat?

And ... oh yes, I can't find the log mentioned in the error message anywhere. I've done a complete scan for vlc.log on my computer and it comes up with bupkiss. I'd be grateful for your valuable input so I might get back to viewing some very interesting vintage television programming.

Many thanks in advance for anything you can do to solve this curiosity.

I have been wrestling with the same problem and have found nothing that will get tubtub to play on my VLC...until yesterday...

Go to http://www.tubtub.com and open whatever channel you like using Windows Media Player. Go down to the lower left where it displays that it's connected and right click on it. A menu will pop up. Select "properties". In properties, where it says location: there is a URL. Copy the URL. (i.e., mms://crazyclassics.tubtub.com/).

Paste this URL into your browser window. Before you go to the site, change mms to http. VLC will play it through your browser (I used Firefox). You will notice that your browser will use the IP address and it will appear in your browser tab as http://72.13.93.186/crimemovies.

If you would like to play the station through VLC without using your browser, copy the URL as it appears. Open VLC and hit "ctrl+v". The URL will appear in the window and just hit play. It's there!

If you want to copy these links to a separate document and save it, I would advise it. It's tedious and time consuming, but if you only have a few channels you're interested in, or if you add them as you watch them, it might work for you. Just remember the hash tag after the IP address IS NOT the same as the title of the channel on the website! It will appear correctly if you follow these directions, but when I tried using the channel names from the website, it came up with an error.

I don't understand how all this works, but it does. If you can find a simpler way, please let me know.
