VLC has been my go to player since I downloaded it. It never crashes (unlike Windows Media Player) and play everything that I open into it. It has been nothing but perfect. But after an update it stopped playing sound. I don't know what to do because I've never had this problem before. Help?

And also when I try to close VLC it just sits there. I have to close it with task manager and then it says "not responding" again this only happened after the update.

Reset preferences should help.

This happens for me with videos. One thing I have noticed every time I play a file, I have to right click on the screen and go to audio > audio channels > select something other than stereo then the sound works.
I have rest the settings, uninstalled vlc, delete the remaining folders and then reinstalled it afterwards but no luck. Is this a general bug for some users?

I am running windows xp home sp3 with a sound blaster X-Fi Xtreme audio sound card if it helps.
