Outputting audio to both S/PDIF & OS Standard Output...

Hi guys,

Had a quick look around and can't seem to find this anywhere. I am running an iMac with an M-Audio Firewire Audiophile, however I wouldn't have thought this is Apple specific, hence putting it here...

I basically have two rooms with TVs which are duplicates of each other, both the second monitor to this iMac. One room has a Sony surround system, capable of 5.1 via S/PDIF, the other room just has a 2 channel amp.

I am trying to get VLC to play the audio to both the S/PDIF output from M-Audio as well the output defined in the OS preferences. When I click 'Use S/PDIF if available' it drops the audio going to the OS defined output and only uses the S/PDIF, so question is, is there a way around this at all?

Cheers!

Theoretically, it might be implementable depending on the audio hardware, but it's not currently implemented.

Aha, ok, I wont go stressing myself trying to find ways to get this to work... May see if I can make an AppleScript to quickly toggle it or something then...

One for the 'requests' section maybe then...

OK, looking at some alternative solutions to my request, when VLC is set to 'Use S/PDIF if available' does it put out 5.1 to the S/PDIF connection, obviously providing it is playing a 5.1 / DTS file?

Cheers!

In principles, yes. But this depends if the audio output supports it. For instance, PulseAudio cannot do passthrough.
