Question about automatic subtle stream selection

Postby alexender00 » 04 Jun 2011 14:05

Hi, I love VLC but I wanted to customize some options to make it even more enjoyable.

Specifically the subtitle stream auto-selection (I.e.: The "Preferred subtitle language" option).

If I use en,fr it works fine, except where dvds or other video only have Closed Captioning. Now the captioning is fine, but it tend to forget the setting when selecting a new title (like when watching TV-DVDs with multiple episodes on disc).

So the big question is: If there a code I can add to my list of preferred subtitles language so that VLC select the first Closed caption stream if there's one but no regular subtitles?

For example: en,fr,cc1 (but that one doesn't work of course)...

It's not a big deal but if anyone knows I'd appreciate it.

I also tried the "any" code but while it shows the CC1 stream as selected under Video>Subtitle Track, it doesn't actually display the captions until I manually click on the track (which is already selected).

This is similar to the problem I am having. I have to select the options for the closed caption/subtitles for each portion or program on the DVD (each DVD has two lessons and two recap/previews). Once I've made the selections (and only after the DVD has started to play) the closed captioning/subtitles work very well, but as soon as the segment is finished, I have to go through the whole selection process again. Shouldn't the setting to "Enable On Screen Display (OSD)" tell VLC to show the subtitles every time I play a DVD if they are available? Is or are there parameters to add to the command line for initiating VLC that would cause the subtitles to be displayed? What about making VLC default to full screen and minimal menus?
