H.264 file in iTunes has no sound

I've been reading about what to do to get a H.264 file onto an ipod: No cabac, no b frames, baseline profile. I choose mp4a for sound. It plays fine in VLC but there's no sound when put into iTunes. Is there a way to fix this?
