Cannot change my skin ;)

Since installation of newest VLC I can't change my skin.
I know, most people can't change their skin, unless they are snakes, but VLC should be able.
Every time I select a new skin from the downloaded list, the old default stays in place. Also after a VLS restart.
What do I overlook or do wrong?
