Screen Capture/Aspect Ration/DVD

Hello all! Ok I've been doing a bit of research so I know why certain things are happening but not how to fix them. I have an video file in mkv format encoded from a DVD; when I play it on VLC it determines the correct size for the video to be seen however this is not the aspect ration that the DVD wants it to be played in. I like the VLC version which gives the correct visual dimensions for the show to be watched however when I attempt to screen capture the captures are done in the DVD aspect ratio not the corrected VLC ratio. Is there any way to set the size for the screen captures to follow the adjusted aspect ratio rather than the encoded one?
