VLC and streaming website?

I use to be able to watch live streams from veetle through vlc but now with this update I cant anymore. Here is a video on what I use to do ----->http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HNMqw9BVcQ(not me btw)Any help would be appreciated,I notice some of the features have been removed for example the HTTP was this feature completely removed?
This was an awesome feature really sad about this.
If I use the old player would it work or is the problem coming from the website?
I was happy that I found a script here that helped me out with the youtube issue also,seems it all went downhill.
