VLC subtitles

i have this problem in VLC player in displaying subtitles! i have a dvd of an anime and VLC does not display the subtitle properly,thus i downloaded a .srt subtitle and used it! it works but the after few minutes the subtitle is not showing anymore! it happens in every episode so how am i gonna fix this?
