Region 2 DVD will not work on my Mac

I keep trying to get VLC to work on my Powerbook 10.3.5 with VLC version 0.8.1.

The region 1 disks work fine but I cannot get region 2 disk to play. I do not get any error messgages. The controller comes on the screen but pushing play will not do anything. You hear the DVD spin for a second but then nothing happens.

Thanks

Have you tried this with any other program, I am thinking its not a vlc error but a hardware error. Most DVD roms play a certain region dvd and will let you change it about 5 times before it stays locked. Unless off course you use a hacked firmware......I know this is true for PC, odds, are its the same on mac.....errr......if I am not mistaken Powerbook is a mac, I dunno how to change the dvd region on a mac, but I am sure its a hardware issue........unless of course the dvd plays fine with another program.....

Please have a look at our FAQ. On newer Macs, DVDs do run only if they do have the same region code as your drive. Otherwise, they will simply not work.

I suggest you write your congressman, because this kind of thing is imposed by law even though it violates numerous national and international anti-trust laws.

It's illegal to impose region codes in europe and (i believe) in australia, the US and Canada seem the only places where the government cares little enough about the average consumer to refuse to outlaw the practice, and enforce it with the DMCA.

I also suggest you check the RPC1 firmware page (http://forum.rpc1.org/viewforum.php?f=30)

and Xvi's dvd region free mac guide
(http://xvi.rpc1.org/)

I used to have a direct link to custom mac RPC1 firmware download sites, but alas things have changed since a year ago.
