Sideways .mov

I received numerous .mov files taken with an iPhone 4. The images are great except that they play sideways in VLC because the camera was held vertically. Apple QuickTime corrects the orientation automatically, but I don't wish to install such a huge bloatware. Is it possible to flip the film to play as it should?

Use the transform video filter for that.

Thanks for the guidance. Is there a way to set this feature (270° for my needs) permanently for .mov films? Currently, one must set this before launching or check the orientation, stop the film, select the proper setting, and the load the film anew. There may be a bug, because when trying to change the setting during play, it jumps to the 90° setting - (which makes it upside down for me), and any other selection has no effect.

No. You could do it for all files.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I failed at saving a film, and its best that I read up on help before I post again.

I've notice the same issue. And while I appreciate the fact that it is possible to change settings, etc, one must ask the question: If Quicktime can identify that the iPhone is rotated and play it correctly without user interaction, why shouldn't VLC do the same thing? Ya know... idiot proof playback. Thanks.

Because nobody bothered to write the code this far.

Yes, and seeing the vout+filter rework of those days, I would wait before jumping in.
