Problems with recording computer screen.

Hi, first thing's first, this is my first post, so know that I'm no expert at using computers, in that I don't know about coding and programming and whatnot. It's just that I've seen posts where people give scripts and things and I wouldnt know what to do with them. But apart from that i'm computer literate.
So I was trying to record my PC screen, so I went to vlc:
media > streaming > capture device (tab) > capture mode=desktop > fps=10 > play
(To get to play, I clicked the little arrow next to stream and clicked play)
As soon as I click on it, instead of recording the screen, it just takes a screenshot and puts it in the player. Then it copies that screenshot and puts it within the first shot and then again and so on, which makes a tunnel illusion. All of that occurs within the player, so i can just close that to get rid of it.
But... how do I solve the problem? I just updated the player. Is it a setting?
