VLC as Server

Hello,
I'm currently wondering if it is possible to set VLC (or VLS?) up as a live streaming server. An example of what I mean is Red5.
Is it possible to set up VLC (or VLS) as a server where someone live-streams to (indicating only a target, in this case that would be a folder on the server) and that a client is able to get that live stream? (In the same way that is possible with Red5)
This would also mean that the VLC or VLS server is able to just keep running and not get a pre-defined name of the incoming live-stream. It should just accept the stream, store it in the folder and give one (or multiple) unicast live streams of the live stream away.
Just to be clear, I'm not looking for other options (other streaming servers). I want to know if this is possible with VLC or VLS. I would be extremely happy to know if this is possible or not.
