avi index repair with large ~40GB file

Hello all, this is my first post here. After scanning the forums I couldn't find an answer that worked for me...

I have a 41 GB avi file of some medical ultrasound images. My recordings have all worked in the past. When I play in VLC or MS media player, the video length is ~3 minutes, whereas it should be ~30 minutes. Also, the video starts at nearly the end. It seems the time sequence is all jumbled up.

I tried DivFix but this program doesn't seem to do anything to the file. I get multiple error messages with DivFix.
Also, I tried VLC to fix the video. Using VLC, I can recover about 50% of the video (the second half), but there is the first half that isn't playing. Also I can't seem to save the fixed file. Every time I play the video with VLC it re-fixes the avi index.

I know those video images are somewhere in the 41 GB of saved video data. How do I reconstruct this into a workable video?

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Ernest

40GB .avi is not a clever idea. I would consider remuxing to .mp4

Thanks for the reply. I have no choice regarding .avi, the medical program I am using only records in .avi.

If I try to remix it to mp4, it only remixes the 3 minutes that already play in .avi format. I need to get the whole 40GB. Thx

Well, your medical program is wrong, since usually AVI can't go over 4GB.
Then, it resets...

So, you need to find a program able to remux it...
