persistent audio device value

I use the normal shortcut to run VLC for most things, but I have a special shortcut with command line parameters to view TV via a video imaging device (USB) and audio from "Line In".

The command line is:
"C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" dshow:// :dshow-vdev="Hi-Speed USB DVD Creator" :dshow-adev="HD Audio rear input" :dshow-size=720x576 :dshow-chroma=YUY2 --sout-record-dst-prefix="N:/TV/" --swscale-mode=2 --crop="16:10"

But if my Win XP audio mixer has "Wave" and "Line In" both un-muted, then I get both audio streams from the speakers, one slightly delayed, and it sounds awful. So if I change the command line to :dshow-adev=none it is fixed, except the next time I use the normal shortcut, I get no sound at all - the "none" seems to be carried forward to the new task.

Is VLC working the way it should ?
I can work around it by adjusting the audio mixer mutes and command line parameters, but it would be good if the solution was user-friendly.
