Recording - file format and size

Postby sptimes2 » 16 Dec 2010 02:13

I'm using VLC 1.1.5, and want to record digital files from my old camcorder tapes. Using my TV tuner card and component input, I've been able to do so, however the files are in .avi format and average approximately 1GB per minute. On the other hand, I was previously able to record a 2 hour DVD into a 6GB file of .mpg format.

Is there a way to specify a different recording format or create smaller files?

You need to transcode.

Thanks, but I'm a bit new at this video stuff. Can you point me to where I would do that?
