Playing CDs without pauses or gaps in between track

How can I play CDs that do not have pauses (or gaps of silence) in between tracks?

Some CDs have the usual number of tracks however, the end of one track runs into the start of the next track without a pause. Pink Floyd's "The Wall" is one such CD.

When played on an ordinary CD player, there are no pauses in between tracks however, when played back with VLC, there is a noticable gap or pause in between each sucessive track.

I am lead to believe such CDs are referred to as "concert CDs"....

Is there a setting to overcome this problem or am I the only one effected by this?

I (and many other) asked exactly the same question.
The developer answered to download version 1.2.0
I asked where it is. No reply so far....
Back to Windows Media Player which works fine.

Thank you, just downloaded The Luggage version 1.1.6 from 15.12.2010 and that's much better already.

Cheers

No, 1.1.6 is not the 1.2.0. Take master as 1.2.0

Thanks, I found 1.2.0
It just crashed and then it is unable to open the Playlists. I created a new playlist (I overwrote the existing ones) but it is unable to open the newly created list too.
When it crashed, it asked if I wanted to send teh crash report. I said yes but nothing happened.

Cheers
S

I just downloaded the newest 1.2.0 and it still has this bug:

File reading failed:
VLC could not open the file "(null)".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL ''. Check the log for details.

Hi j-b,

i just dowloaded the most recent version "VLC media player 1.2.0-git-20110111-0003 Twoflower" and installed it on Microsoft Vista operating system. But the problem with a gap between the tracks is still the same as before. So please give me a hint on how to change the config to get a continiously playing CD. Thanks a lot in advance.

No surprises there really. Gapless playback is not implemented and it would require really a lot of work for which nobody has volunteered this far.

It would be easier to expose the CDDA as a single item with multiple chapters. Then we would get gapless as for DVDs. But most people would be annoyed that they don't get the titles list in the playlist anymore.

Thanks for your reply Denis. It makes this topic really clear. I think it's a good idea to expose the CDDA as a single item with multiple chapters as an interims solution. I've seen that this "problem" (better additional function) is mentioned since several years already. So what I think is, its better to get your suggested solution than to wait for the more comfortable gapless playback.
When i think about on how to implement this into the GUI, then i would like to have another squared button (at the end) for continiously playing as a single item.
Maybe some people may complain about the missing playlist, but much more will feel happy to be able to playback their CD's as they are.
What do u think abt?

*** bump ***

I love listening to albums especially live recordings, DJ mixes, and those classic concept albums
and gapless CD playback is essential. VLC has saved me from WMP in all but this regard so far.

Also reliable gapless for MP3s and flacs of these same albums would be a basket of cupcakes delivered by butterflies.

Gapless file playback is a different matter. It would require quite much work, for which I don't need to note that nobody volunteered.
