How to use "Multiple Instances"

In the past (around one year ago) it was possible to use multiple vlc instances.
However, this does not work anymore(at least for me), although I have not checked "only allow one instance"
Is there any other setting that has to be changed or is it jus not possible anymore to use multiple instances or is it a bug that it does not work after unchecking "only allow 1 instance"?

Works fine here. Make sure your file associations are not forcing single instance mode from the command line.
