Streaming multiple videos

Postby ZupaDupa » 11 Nov 2010 18:43

Hi!

I'm trying to achieve the following:

I have two 22" screens connected to fairly powerful desktop PC and a 32" TV connected to a cheap Intel Atom based media-pc. I would wish to have 8 videos playing simultaneously on the desktop PC, 4 videos per display. These videos would be normal AVI files on the hard-drive. Then, I would like to be able to stream any one of those 8 videos to the media-pc (TV) and switch between them. How do you suggest I go about setting this up?

I know VLC can stream the video over a network while it is being watched. But I don't fully understand the UDP. So, when I begin to stream, I have to enter the IP of the "client" machine on the "server", rather than connecting to a "server" form the "client". So my question is: if I set my desktop PC to stream all those 8 videos to the media-pc, will they actually transmit anything on the LAN before I open the streams on my media-pc?

if you're using UDP, yes.
