Constant Audio drops?

Almost every movie or TV show I watch, avi and mkv, have audio drops a few times through out the show. Why?

That still doesn't work. I reset everything and I still get audio drops a few times each movie or TV show! I read something in these forums about vlc not taking enough resources so its like the PC just kind of goes to sleep and lets the audio drop... What?

Could it be the hardware acceleration that is causing the audio drops? If so how do I get both to work correctly?
