movies are tilted, cannot revert :(

Hi folks,
I once had to rotate a movie 90 degrees to the left, activating the checkbox here:
extended settigns >> video effects >> geometry >> rotate
OK, now I can deactivate the checkbox, and the movie reverts back to "normal" view. So far so good.
The problem is, whenever I close VLC and reopen it, the checkbox is always still activated and the movie is rotated 90 degrees to the left. At the moment I always have to deactivate this checkbox when starting VLC. What I want to say by this, is that the setting is "stuck" or somehow permanent.
What can I do to solve the problem? Many thanks everybody!
(PS: I was using 1.0.0 and now updated to 1.1.4 but the problem is still there, I guess that's because I just overwrote the application files and not the user setting files, wherever they might be, as I am hesitating to delete the settings files, given that I have adustet the prefs according to my needs.)
