Get VLC to display "now playing" for radio stream

I have a particular .pls for a radio stream saved locally. (http://wfmu.org/wfmu.pls)
When I play it in iTunes, I get a nice "now playing" from the station (artist and song). But VLC only displays the name of the radio show.
How can I get VLC to display the now playing track info rather than the name of the radio show? Also, is there a way to have VLC just display this info full-screen with no other cruft?
