dvd works in other programs/tv streches picture in vlc

hey all i had a question i have a dvd that i recorded and it works fine on tv's and other applications like powerdvd but when i use vlc it comes all streched out and i cant unstrech it. is there a setting i am missing?

anyone have any idea? its really frusterating since i love using vlc for all my media needs its just this one issue thats bugging me.
