Screen capture on 2nd monitor

Hey all,
I'm trying to capture the desktop on my second monitor with no success. I'm using VLC 1.0.3. And I have 2 monitors of different size. The second monitor is smaller than the first.
I've gone into preferences, show all settings, Input/Codecs, Access Modules, Screen. I've set the coordinates to beyond my first monitor's width in the first "Subscreen Top Left Corner" field and I've left the width and height fields at the default of 0. I get nothing but a black screen from the capture. If I adjust the height and width to reflect the second monitor's resolution I get an error:
[0x5bf908c] screen demux error: subscreen region overflows the screen
[0x5e04e14] main access error: no access module matched "screen"
[0x5be1704] main input error: open of `screen://' failed: no access module match
ed "screen"
I've read quite a few posts on capturing from multiple monitors and they all pretty much state to use the appropriate coordinates. I'm assuming that this might have something to do with my monitors being at different resolutions? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
