Hi,

I have an avi file (xvid-codec) but the index is corrupt. VLC repairs the index but doesnt save the changes. I tried to remuxx the file with VirtualDubMod but I get errors cause of the codec. So I have seen I could do that with the Direct Stream Copy method. First I tried to convert (Media-> Convert/Save) the video but VLC changes the codecs so the Direct Stream method I want to try because I do not want to lose quality cause of different codecs. This method keeps the original video and audio source, right? But where can I find that option? Or is there an easier way with VLC? Need a guide for VLC because DivXFix++ and other programs didnt fix the problem.

I have a couple of very large (gt 100GB) that I receive the AVI rebuilding message and after waiting a long time, the AVI file plays perfectly.
Have tried the recommended "fix" programa but really want to know why Videolan can not save the "repaired file"??

Have seen and tried all 3 - non work but VLAN does "fix" so why not save? Have even tried the streaming technique and that did not work either!

I had this problem since upgrading to version 2. Now fixed, for two machines.
I have an INTEL mini's > MacOSX 10.6. But this Occam's razor solution is probably best to do for all systems first, before trying other complicated stuff.

PROBLEM:
I found many movies from x264 to avi, suddenly had 'broken files' after upgrading to version 2.
New movies were broken, and needed repair to play - that played fine on other machines!
This took much time to rebuild -every time I tried to 'rewind' for something I missed
(I REALLY MISS THE UNIQUE MAC TIME-SETABLE 'BACK' BUTTON FUNCTION!)
Intelligent people can think of myriad causes for every problem. This forum is littered with explorations of each in expanding detail.
Try the simplest first!

SOLUTION:
In Preferences, I 'reset' my advanced preferences to original 'default'. THAT's IT!

CAUSE of Problem: I believe something I set up years ago, a remnant in preferences as upgrades addressed original necessity, caused this.
Still not sure exactly what, but two machines narrowed it to the input and codec section of preferences.
