Saving Settings

Everytime I close my notebook VLC closes & I have to reopen my video again. But when that happens, the customized stuff I did all disappears. I usually go to Customize Interface & put certain features on the toolbar position. I also go under Hot Keys and put in different shortcuts for certain keys and both of these always go back to default settings when restarting VLC. How do I permanently save this? Or is this a bug?
