I'v a problem with a srt subtitle. It will not play with the MPG file. I use vlc 0.8.1 and Mac osx 10.3.8.
I'v never had problems with vlc, allways it will play the subtitle, but now it won't!?

Error : main: option sub-original-fps does not exist

Can anybody help please?

could you try to the nightly builds to see if that was fixed in the developement version ?

Ok, i've downloaded the nightly builds, but it still won't work. Must i have other subtitles? VOB for example? Or can i translated the SRT subtitle to VOB?

First please put the SRT online somewhere, combined with the messages that appear in the Messages dialog of VLC when you open the movie with this SRT.

It seems like it's simply impossible to load subtitles with .mpg files? I can't get it to work with any of the files I have anyway, using WinXP and VLC 0.8.1. I tried the latest build, from 18/4, but it didn't work either.

Can some more people confirm this, please? Or better - tell me how to make it work...

I've searched after some options to log what's happening when playing files, but I can find anything... is it possible?

It was NEVER supported to play external text subtitles with mpeg. It often works, but because there are no time indexes in mpeg files, it's not easy to do the synchronization. Also, apparently there are a lot of SRT files out there with incorrect end times, i have recently become aware. I'm trying to trace the cause of this.

Ok, thanks for the reply! I'm very surprised by this - I have never seen it mentioned anywhere that mpg-files and external subs don't mix well together, not generally, nor for vlc or any other player. (And after five minutes with Google I can't find anything either. :/)

I did manage to find some mpeg1 video files that works with external subtitles in VLC, and trying really hard I can get the subs out of sync for some seconds if I stop, start and skip around a lot, but they always come back to sync very quickly. Mpeg2-files, whether it's a svcd cd, "raw" .mpg fom the cd or a vcdgear converted mpg-file, does never show any subtitles in VLC. Vsfilter for example, seem to load subtitles just fine with every kind of video, and maybe I've just been lucky with subtitles not being flawed, but nevertheless it does work.

Thanks again for your answer, and big thanks for your efforts with VLC! In large it's simply the best player there is.

It's more a problem in combination with the way VLC was designed. VLC is unlike other applications when it comes to synchronization.

you hihihihi, there are not always as rich as you to keep buying 20 us dvd, not either renting them at 3 or 5 us... there's a POOR world out there and that's why this developers exists, because there's more and more people that wnat to access digital resources and entertainment but doesn't have the money you ass hole...

by the way you should be brave as you think, why don't you buy dvd for you and your neighbords and keep the dvd industry happy so they don't bother us.

Ummm... sorry to impose but you don't sound much better either. How much are you paying for your cable internet or dsl a month. Get rid of your internet and buy the dvds, just a thought. Not trying to be a smart ass but look at it from both sides. I bet you are paying at least $30 bucks a month for your cable/dsl. Now I am sure you can get more DVD's downloaded a month then you can buy a month with 30 bucks but hey don't say you are poor, you obviously have cable/dsl internet and that is not poor in my eyes.
