Media Library Woes + Crash

Firstly, I love VLC. It rocks like a cockfight. I use no other video player. However, with the release of 1.1.0, the Media Library is treating it's files in a peculiar way and I wanted to know if it was intentional.

Before 1.1.0...I launch VLC with the playlist where I have all my vids stored in a tree structure. I have a 'movies' folder and a 'tv' folder, each with subfolders of their own. Whenever I add movies or TV shows to my collection, I have to add them to the VLC media library as well, which is not a problem at all. I like it that way. It always keeps it's tree structure, even after I close VLC.

1.1.0...I immediately notice the changes to the playlist and I think, Oooh, they added some features! So I add my 'movies' and 'tv' folders. It defaults to tree structure, which I like. I enjoy a movie and later, close VLC. When I re-launch VLC and the playlist, I notice all the movies and TV shows have been shoved into the same level. Gone is the tree structure and all the subfolders. The contents of all the folders have been placed into one giant list of files. I don't want this. I want my tree back.

Also, VLC has crashed three times after I've watched a video and pressed the "stop" button in fullscreen mode. I press "stop". I then double-click the fullscreen (for the purpose of getting out of fullscreen), it then hangs and freezes, and I have to close the vlc.exe process in task manager.

So my 2 questions are...is the new media library designed this way on purpose? And...are you aware of the crashes?

Thanks!
Oliver

1. Did you try to force the playlist-tree in preferences?
2. Crashes is annoying, but we need more infos.

Yes, I've selected Display Playlist Tree and pressed Save. This was done before and after adding items to the Media Library, saving the settings both times to be sure. When I close VLC and start it up again...items in the Media Library are in regular view (non-tree) format.

What other info do you need re: the crashes. I've confirmed that it occurs in fullscreen mode only. How to duplicate on a WinXP Pro SP3 machine: 1) play an .avi file** 2) activate fullscreen mode 3) press the stop button on the fullscreen control menu 4) crash!

I did it again just now in those exact steps to confirm before submitting this.

** Edit: Here's the info on that file.
Stream 0
Type: Video
Codec: MPEG-4 Video (XVID)
Resolution: 624x352
Frame Rate: 23.976023

Stream 1
Type: Audio
Codec: MPEG Audio Layer 1/2/3 (mpga)
Channels: Stereo
Sample Rate: 48000 Hz
Bitrate: 128 kb/s

can you share the file?

No, I cannot share the file but all XVID avi files are affected in the same way. Also, versions prior to 1.1.0 do not succumb to this behavior (both the broken tree and crashes).

Math. Just Do It.

Update: In an effort to test the avi file in question with another app, I activated Windows Media Player (with much reservation) and played the avi file with that. It worked. Afterward, I closed WMP and launched VLC again. I cleared the items in Media Library, checked preferences to be sure Display Playlist Tree was check-boxed. I then added the movies folder and the tv folder. Then I shut VLC down.

When I launched VLC a few moments later, the tree view in media library was working. It still crashes that particular XVID avi file when you click the stop button in fullscreen mode but other XVID avi files were not crashing in the same way. So it must have been the file.

But still, very strange behavior, ne?

So all seems well.

Yes, the sample file (or files, if you like) can be shared.

The problem was noticed in several versions of VLC media player (1.1.10, 1.1.9 and earlier).
I confirm the exact problem with freezing of VLC media player in fullscreen mode after pressing "Stop" button.
My player also stops responding on mouse activities or keyboard strokes after pressing "Stop" button in full screen mode.
I can exit fullscreen mode only by terminating vlc.exe process.
This is very annoying.
My system is Windows XP SP3 running on Pentium 4 PC with 2 GB RAM (40% available).
My video card is ASUS Extreme AX550 (ATI chipset) 256 MB. Driver version 8.592.0.0.
