Full screen without changing resolution

Is there a way to have VLC playback videos in full screen without having the image scale up? I'd like to have my 480x800 stay at 480x800 while having a black border all the way around, the way all other video players do it. Otherwise smaller format videos look like crap in full screen.

My monitor resolution is 1440x900 and I'm using Windows XP.

vlc players does it too. The series of 'o', alt-'o' and alt-shift-'o' hotkeys are your friend.

As Rémi Denis-Courmont says that is how you can toggle scaled/not-scaled video.

If you want the default to be unscaled you can change it in the preferences by going to:
Tools >> Preferences...

And select "All" for "Show settings". Then in the "Video" section scroll down to the "Window properties" and untick "Video Auto Scaling". Press "Save" and try a video.

Cheers, Arite.
