Playing Region 2 DVD's on a Mac??

I am using a Powerbook that is set up for the US - Region 1.

When I put a region 2 DVD in the player it wants me to reformat the player and will only allow me to switch it back and forth between regions 5 times.

I heard that with VLC I can play a region 2 DVD on my powerbook, but it does not seem to want to let me do it.

Does anyone know how to do this? I can't seem to even exit the message that the Mac puts up about re-formatting the drive without ejecting the DVD.

When I try and open the DVD in VLC I get an error message.

Thanks..

That's not possible anymore, because Apple uses drives in newer Macs which prevent this as stated in our FAQ.

The only possiblity to be able to play DVDs from all regions on these Macs is not to set the region-code at all (which does also mean that you never use Apple's DVD player but VLC). Once you have set it for the first time, this can't be undone.

Not Setting Region code at all??

How do you not set the region code at all??

When I put the Reg 2 DVD in, it only gives me the option of setting it up for Reg 2.

Thanks for the response. Much appreciated!!

You can only play DVDs from all regions, if you've never set a region, i.e. always used VLC or MPlayerOSX and not Apple's DVD Player.
