Subtitles don't disappear

This is quite annoying behaviour. Subtitles don't disappear when there is no next subtitle after 3 sec. When there are lines of text coming one after another then it is no problem. But when there is a longer pause between subtitles, then old line is not erased until next line appears.

How can I set VLC to force it to erase displayed line of text after 3 sec.

I'm sorry. I have forgotten to say sth about my environment.

VLC 0.8.1
Windows XP SP1
Subtitles in format:

00:00:10:Some text
00:00:23:Some text

thanks,

I'm getting the same behauvior with some old subtitles that have showing times but no hidding time for the dialogs. It would be cool if we get such an option as this added somewhere in the near future ;)
If i remeber correctly, the subs where in v-player (not vi-player, correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe they are two different players) format or something.... and the subtitles hid themselves after 3 seconds or so (i think it was 4 seconds...). The files work this way in geexbox as well ;)
